For new clients:
What You Need to Know…
Once it has been determined that you would like to proceed with therapy, you will be sent an automated email from a system called Owl. The email will contain 2 forms to be filled out to register you as a client. (If the session is for your child, please ensure you fill out the forms using their information.) Once these are completed, we can book an intake appointment.
The first appointment is called “intake”. It will be approximately 75 minutes in duration. During this session, you will be asked a variety of questions regarding what has brought you to therapy, a bit about your history and what your goals are.
If the client is a child under the age of 16, this intake appointment is for parents only.
If your child is 12 or under, a typical plan is to book an initial appointment with parents (no kids) and then book 3 appointments with the child to assess the situation and initiate intervention. With children this age, I like those appointments to be 3 weeks in a row if possible to establish rapport.
Following these 3 sessions, I recommend a half session (25 minute) phone or video call with parent(s)/ caregivers for follow-up and next steps.
If further therapy is recommended, appointments will then be spaced 2 weeks apart (unless the child is in crisis).
